When art restorer Julia uncovers a hidden Latin inscription - *Quis Necavit Equitem* ("Who killed the knight?") - concealed within a 15th-century Flemish painting depicting a chess game, she finds herself pulled into a mystery bridging the medieval past and the present. As she and her associates work to decode the chess position and its secrets, a series of real murders begins to mirror the ancient riddle.
